A Caber toss is a traditional Scottish sport in which participants toss a caber, or a large wooden pole.

History and specifics[]

Participants are judged mainly on how the caber lands after being tossed. (ST - Strange New Worlds I short story: "Terra Tonight")

The game was popular on Caldos II, a world terraformed to resemble the Scottish Highlands. When the weather control grid on Caldos II was apparently malfunctioning, Governor Maturin did not want it to rain at the time as the colony had a caber toss scheduled. (TNG episode: "Sub Rosa")
