Cabernet sauvignon was a type of red wine originating on the planet Earth and other Human colony worlds. It was one of the most widely produced red wines on Earth in the 20th century.

History and specifics[]

In 1519 aboard the city-ship Axion, stranded 22nd century Earth Starfleet starship Columbia personnel Captain Erika Hernandez, First Officer Veronica Fletcher, and CMO Johanna Metzger discussed what they missed most from their lives on Earth that day. For Hernandez, it was wine. She cited cabernet sauvignon along with burgundy, chardonnay, chianti, malbec, merlot, pinotage, riesling, rioja, sauvignon blanc, and zinfandel. (ST - Destiny novel: Mere Mortals)

In the 2370s, gastrodiplomat Chelsea Monroe-Cassel concocted a recipe to approximate Klingon bloodwine using Earth ingredients which included two ounces of cabernet sauvignon. (ST reference: The Star Trek Cookbook)

During the 2370s decade, a winery in New Sonoma on Sherman's Planet held a tasting of a rare 2345 vintage cabernet sauvignon. (TNG novel: Losing the Peace)

A 2372 vintage cabernet from Château Picard — crafted with 70% cabernet sauvignon, 20% cabernet franc, and 10% merlot — was a specialty of the winery and the first year produced after the death of Robert Picard. Jean-Luc Picard was disappointed when sampling it in 2380, noting that Marie Picard's talents had improved with later vintages, such as the the one shared after Data's death in 2379. (TNG novel: Q & A)
