The Caelian class was a 25th century Federation starship type, a tier 6-rated intel multi-mission science vessel class derived by Starfleet Intelligence from the 24th century Vesta-class multi-mission explorer, in Starfleet and Khitomer Alliance service from the 2410s decade. Service history and specifics[]

The 24th century Vesta-class proved to be a capable and versatile starship type, prompting Starfleet Intelligence to take a keen interest in the development and service of its ships. In the 2410s, Starfleet Intelligence launched the USS Caelian, a hybrid of T6-rated 25th century Vesta-line classes and S.I.'s own Eclipse-class intel cruiser. The ships of the Vesta class, and derived classes, had a crew complement of 750. (STO - Tour of Duty mission: "Training Cruise")

Ships of the Caelian class were equipped with consoles from previous generations of T5- and T6-rated Vesta-class derivatives, including a sympathetic fermion transceiver, a multidimensional wave-function analysis module, a quantum field focus controller for accelerated quantum slipstream drive propulsion, an omni-directional tachyon wave siphon, an isometric dispersal array and a radiation bombardment matrix. In 2411, Starfleet Intelligence operated two vessels named the Khonshu - the Eclipse-class USS Khonshu (NCC-47550) and the Caelian-class USS Khonshu (NCC-82990) - for operations involving the mirror universe. They were capable of opening a portal to the Terran Empire-controlled mirror universe. (STO - Terran Gambit mission: "Red Shift")

Livery[]

In the 25th century, the design of the Caelian-class intel multi-mission science vessel allowed its commanding officer to choose from different designs of livery, which could be modified further at starbases. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Furthermore, the installation of deflector shields from specific factions modified the hull appearance, including shields from the Reman Resistance, the Breen Confederacy and the Dominion. (STO missions: "Coliseum", "Cold Storage", "Boldly They Rode")
