The Calder II outpost was a Federation facility, an outpost located on the surface of planet Calder II. It was established there with a focus on archaeology in the early 24th century.
History and specifics[]
Following an archeological expedition to the Sakethan burial mounds in 2343, a small installation was constructed in 2344, operating under the auspices of the Federation Science Council's subcommittee, the Federation Archeology Council. The compound consisted of prefabricated modules, a power generator, and an external shield generator. Its permanent staff included four technicians, six researchers, and three Starfleet security officers, though it regularly had scientific visitors. Supply ships arrived quarterly. The outpost and burial mounds were protected by a type-4 deflector shield, and was armed with only two phaser banks for defensive purposes. (TNG episode: "Gambit, Part I"; Decipher RPG module: Narrator's Guide)
In 2370, the Virayllan-class raider Fortune under the command of Arctus Baran successfully stole some artifacts from the outpost, with aid from Jean-Luc Picard, posing as "Galen" to infiltrate Baran's operation. Picard targeted the facility's shield generator and temporarily knocked it out with phasers in order to prevent Baran from destroying the compound. (TNG episode: "Gambit")
Following Baran's theft, Starfleet reinforced the outpost's defensive capabilities. (Last Unicorn RPG module: Star Trek: The Next Generation Core Game Book)
In the 2370s, station researchers thought they'd found pieces of the khon-tor-pa, a mythological weapon used by the Mindlords of Kolinahr in ancient times. (Last Unicorn RPG module: Planets of the UFP)
- This facility replaced an outpost established by United Earth in the 22nd century.
