According to Khan Noonien Singh, Augment Dictator Alexander Newton annexed Canada, the United States, Central America and the Caribbean into the North American Coalition on 17 September 1992. By 1996, Augment infighting led to nuclear war that turned Canada and the United States into the Great North Wastelands, with Newton's remaining territories along with conquests in South America forming the New American Empire until the Augment dictatorships were overthrown.
