A canyon was a geological formation, a deep and narrow valley between high cliffs.

History and specifics[]

In the year 2266 on the planet Neesan, James T. Kirk and Montgomery Scott ran from members of the Kovar people into a nearby canyon. Kirk then used his phaser to start a rockslide which blocked the canyon's entrance, cutting off their pursuers. (TOS comic: "The Cosmic Cavemen")

In 2409, a Klingon Defense Force away team briefly exchanged diatribes with the Gorn chief engineer of the Gorn Canyon on Nimbus III. While the chief engineer claimed that the Gorn Hegemony would regain independence from the Klingon Empire, the KDF crew highlighted that their kingdom consisted of just a canyon. (STO - Wasteland mission: "A Fistful of Gorn")
