TNG - Ill Wind comic
"Part One"
  • Captain's log, stardate 47960.3
The Enterprise has arrived in the neighborhood of GC 2006, Andrews' Star, after being assigned to provide security and assistance for the eight leg of the Centauris' Cup, the Federation's major bi-yearly stellar sailing competition. Whether because of the innate prestige of the event -- or the substantial prizes being offered -- this year's turnout has been unusually large, posing security and safety problems to which the simplest answer is a starship. Personal: My pre-mission research has indicated that despite the superficially amiable atmosphere of sport, this is not going to be a pleasure cruise...
  • Captain's log, personal, stardate 47960.3
I have spent some while reviewing what information we have about the competing teams... and have had powerfully reinforced my sense that much sport is simply a sanitized idiom for aggression. A more acceptable face of aggression... perhaps. But there is not a team which appears to be competing for the joy of sailing alone. In every case, other agendas are operating, political or personal. I don't remember it being this way in the old days, or am I just seeing the sport more clearly, thirty years after the fact? In any case, the alternate motivations themselves make an interesting study. Some of them have come as something of a surprise...
TNG - Ill Wind comic
"Part Two"
  • Captain's log, Stardate 47961.2
We are ten minutes from the start of this leg of the Federation cup race. Nine of the twelve yachts are in starting position.
As is usual, the star is a "running" one. The verification craft from the interstellar yacht Federation is in place, ready to give the starting signal.
This should be a most interesting leg to watch. The course is a nasty one.
  • Captain's log
After the false start, the race was restarted. It has been in progress for six hours. Yachts Allul, Kelebek, and Perhonen are presently leading the crowd.
TNG - Ill Wind comic
"Part Three"
  • Captain's log, supplemental. 47962.1
The race is now in its twenty-fifth hour, and running quietly. We have enough issues to deal with at the moment.
There have been some nasty irregularities which I intend to see resolved. Not the least of them is who planted the bomb aboard the Schedart yacht.
  • Captain's log, Stardate 47962.6
Now in the fortieth hour of the race, which has proceeded without further incident except for teh Carrig yacht, which has reported failure in its food processor.
Suggestions by Commander Riker that we beam over some bread and water have been resisted... though with difficulty.
TNG - Ill Wind comic
"Part Four"
  • Captain's log, Stardate 47962.6
The Federation Cup Race competitors are now rounding the fourteenth of the sixteen buoys which define the course around Andrew's Star. They will now be using slingshot velocity to head for the last buoy and the finish line.
This leg of the run, when velocity is initially lost, is one of the most dangerous parts of the race. Unpredictable influences can suddenly change everything... and leaves even the most experienced sailor at a loss.
I cannot lose the feeling that somewhere out on the course, this happening even as I speak...
TNG episode
"All Good Things..."
  • Captain's Log, supplemental.
Starfleet Command reports no unusual activity along the Neutral Zone and there is no sign of a temporal anomaly. It would appear I am the only member of the crew to retain any knowledge of my experience.
