A cargo shuttle is a special type of shuttlecraft vehicle designed to carry cargo items aboard.

Earth and the Federation[]

The Federation Starfleet often uses special cargo shuttle vehicles. In the 2260s, the cargo shuttles Caroline Herschel and Edwin Drake were assigned to the starship USS Enterprise.

There were typically four cargo shuttles carried aboard an Overfield-class freighter. (FASA RPG module: Federation Ship Recognition Manual)

The Hermes-class USS Cochise, in the 2280s, was assigned a cargo shuttle, the Onizuka. (TOS - The Yesterday Saga novel: Time for Yesterday)

In the 24th century, the type-8 cargo shuttle was part of the complement of auxiliary craft aboard USS Stargazer. (STA novel: Gauntlet)

Later in the 24th century, cargo shuttles of the 9A type were carried aboard Galaxy-class starships such as the USS Enterprise-D. The Sphinx-class cargo shuttle was also a common variation of this vessel configuration. In a 26th century possible timeline, a Federation that was dominated by the Consilium utilized cargo shuttles aboard yagghorth-driven starships. A stolen cargo shuttle of this type was taken from the time traveling Savasci by a group of 23rd century Yoons they were attempting to kidnap to create a future colony. The Yoons took the shuttle to a planet obscured by the Crossroad Nebula where the future Consilium would not be able to find them. (TOS novel: Crossroad)

Bajor[]

Bajoran cargo shuttles were a type of 24th century cargo shuttle used by the Bajorans. This particular type was used in the 2370s by the members of the Cult of the Pah-Wraiths. They brought several shuttles of this type with them when the left Bajor bound for Empok Nor, where the vessels were landed in the space station's docking bays. (DS9 episode: "Covenant")

Other races and cultures[]

The Malosian civilization had a Malosian cargo shuttle type they commonly used. (ENT episode: "Stratagem").
