I'm a little confused, exactly what is a government? If I were asked to try and pop out a definition I might use an example, say the UK, a country, is run by a government, parliament. If that is roughly correct then should not this category have a lot of articles moved out to something else, “Nations” maybe? As I see it, this category should be for The Federation Council, The Vulcan High Command etc. And the United Federation of Planets, Klingon Empire etc should be elsewhere. What do you think? -- 8of5 15:28, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

A government is the organization which runs a state. "Nation" is an inaccurate term, since it refers, in its technical sense (not its common sense) to a collection of people with a common language and culture. A "state" is a political entity which has authority over its borders and a monopolty on the use of force, with no higher authority than itself (i.e., it's not a political subdivision of a larger state -- so the US states aren't truly states in that sense of the term). Governments are simply the organizations which are authorized to run the states and administer its decisions. So, yeah, this category should refer to articles that describe the governments of the various interstellar states, not the interstellar states themselves. -- Sci 15:41 9 NOV 2006 UTC

Groovey, I'll start work on a Category:States later today then. -- 8of5 15:41, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
