Quick question here. This category and other with Starfleet in their names (like: Category:Starfleet casualties and Category:Starfleet captains) are for Federation Starfleet personnel only, correct?--Long Live the United Earth 02:53, May 9, 2010 (UTC)

all the other categories can be used for Earth Starfleet personnel also, AFAIK. However... Earth SF personnel should not be dual categorized into Starfleet personnel unless their service began in or before 2161 and continued past the founding of the UFP. Also however, Earth SF can be placed in Starfleet personnel (22nd century)... -- Captain MKB 03:03, May 9, 2010 (UTC)

Woo, that's a tad confusing but ok. Thanks Cpt.--Long Live the United Earth 03:05, May 9, 2010 (UTC)

It took me a while to wrap my head around the dynamics of it as i began some of the categorizations contained. I should draw up a category tree to show people how to document it, but that strikes me as a difficult endeavour... anywho, that's how i've been doing it. i think my first insight into doing this was to consider Earth Starfleet as a sub-organization of Starfleet, so that we wouldn't be plagued with tiny categories like 'Earth Starfleet captains' (of which we would only have a handful) and 'Earth Starfleet commodores' (which wouldn't be big enough to survive, with only one i can think of) -- Captain MKB 03:09, May 9, 2010 (UTC)
Oh, and the straw the broke this decision's back was that many sources consider the 'Federation' or 'Coalition' Starfleet to have existed a few years before the Rom war -- meaning that many characters therein couldn't be decisively placed in either category -- fighting in a Federation force before the Federation existed, etc. in FASA and Diane Duane's works... -- Captain MKB 03:11, May 9, 2010 (UTC)

Makes sense, I'd always just assumed they were Federation only, but I never took a very close look at them. Thanks for the explanation.--Long Live the United Earth 03:24, May 9, 2010 (UTC)
