For other uses, see Cerberus.

Cerberus was a mythological guardian of the underworld Hell on the planet Earth, a dog with three heads. The heads barked of the past, present and future. It was an Other-worlder.

The constellation Eta Lupi (also known as Cerberus) was named after the character, as well as the Federation Cerberus colony.

History[]

According to Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy poem Inferno, Cerberus guarded the Third Circle of Hell.

In 2286, Lieutenant Castille projected mass illusions of USS Enterprise-A personnel descending through Dante's version of Hell. During the journey, they fought Cerberus. Spock had them fill the creature's mouths with dirt to avoid being eaten. (TOS - Who Killed Captain Kirk? comic: "Hell in a Handbasket")

In 2366, Deanna Troi had a waking dream in which the shape-changer Proteus and a band of Other-worlders assaulted CephCom, the headquarters of Cephalic Security in the city of Verity on the planet Rampart. Proteus shape-changed into Cerberus, frightening the security officers. (TNG novel: Gulliver's Fugitives}
