Spectre of War! — "Ceremony of Innocence" is the 74th issue of DC Comics's 1989 series of TNG comics. It is the fourth issue in the five-part War and Madness story arc written by Michael Jan Friedman, drawn by Gordon Purcell and Terry Pallot, and published in 1995.

Summary[]

In the USS Enterprise-D's conference room, Gowron recounted several Tholian assaults on Klingon outposts, which he believed were prompted by the Federation starting a war against the Tholian Assembly. Yet the attacks occurred before Tholians attacked Federation outposts. Admiral Gregory Quinn asks Jean-Luc Picard to find out the truth. Meanwhile, William T. Riker has difficulty coming to terms with Kyle Riker's impending marriage to Brenda Sorenson.

When Tholian starships fire upon Starbase 180, the Enterprise responds and disables the flagship Narqal. First Officer Nethrax visits the Enterprise in a containment suit, revealing that a Klingon Bird-of-Prey had attacked several Tholian colonies and kidnapped some of its citizens, and they had been retaliating against the Federation because of its alliance with the Klingon Empire. Records of the attacks were shown to Gowron, who identified the attacking ship as the missing IKS Taj. Its last reported coordinates were near Ohniaka III, the world where Hugh and the Liberated Borg were last seen. Picard vowed to Gowron that he would get to the bottom of the mystery.

To be concluded

Log entries[]

First Officer's log, supplemental.
Gowron's way off-base. The Federation would never have made a move against the Tholians without informing him first. And as the captain said, there was no provocation — no reason for us to get involved... was there?
Captain's log, supplemental.
Gowron does not make empty threats. We now have one more reason to stop the Tholians... as if the colonies they devastated were not reason enough.
