Cerium (symbol Ce) is a chemical element, a higly reactive metal with atomic number 58 on the periodic table. Cerium has an atomic mass of 140.12, and was discovered by Humans for the first time on Earth's European continent in the year 1803. (TOS reference: Star Fleet Medical Reference Manual)
One of the Federation's largest sources of cerium in the 23rd century was the mining colony on planet Janus VI. (TOS episode: "The Devil in the Dark")
