Chandra IV was an M class planet in the Chandra system.
History and specifics
Much of the planet, with a surface of 80% water, was uninhabitable ocean. Temperatures were very low at the poles with large ice caps. The land was predominantly extreme desert. Most of the inhabitable land was on a single continent in the northern hemisphere, around the size of Australia, which was temperate and comfortable. Its total population in 2267 was 250 million humanoids. Starfleet first surveyed the planet some 90 years before that date.
Eight months prior to the Federation-Klingon War of 2267, the planet was occupied, and its inhabitants, the Chandrans, were enslaved by the Klingon military. Having reached a pre-warp industrialized stage of civilization, the Klingon Empire organized its labor force and factories to produce armaments for the impending war. There were eight major cities, and various industrial centers, as well as signs of recent insurrection when Captain James T. Kirk conducted military reconnaissance using the shuttlecraft Galileo.
