A chicken sandwich is a type of food, a sandwich made using bread and chicken meat.

Although preparations of chicken notably are from the Human civilization of the planet Earth, where chickens originate, the spread of Human culture (and chickens) throughout the galaxy has made this available many other places. This is presumably also a preparation originated on planets with parallel development to Earth and parallel universes as well.

History and specifics[]

Starfleet Captain James T. Kirk once ordered a chicken sandwich and coffee from a food synthesizer. Kirk was quite dismayed, however, when he found that tribbles had infested the system. Mister Spock found the process fascinating. (TOS episode: "The Trouble with Tribbles"; DS9 episode & novelization: Trials and Tribble-ations)

Kirk's particular "tribble's banquet" sandwich consisted of chicken, Swiss cheese, corned beef, and rye bread with a side of coleslaw. (TOS reference: Official Cooking Manual)

The chicken sandwich scene was omitted from the earlier James Blish novelization of "The Trouble with Tribbles" in Star Trek 3.

Kirk ate a chicken sandwich while discussing a Romulan situation with McCoy and Spock while Enterprise was in orbit of Artaleirh. (TOS - Rihannsu novel: The Empty Chair)

In order to appear inconspicuous among Human Starfleet cadets, Data learned to order a chicken sandwich, apple and glass of milk when eating in company. Tasha Yar referred to the meal as "misfit camouflage". (TNG novel: Survivors)

A chicken sandwich and coffee was a quick and common meal of Doctor Beverly Crusher while working long hours in sickbay on the Federation starship USS Enterprise-E in the First Splinter timeline. (ST - A Time to... novel: A Time to Harvest)
