Class 3 nebula

A class-3 nebula in the Delta Quadrant.

In Federation Starfleet's numeric nebula classification, a class 3 nebula was a type of gas cloud in interstellar space. (ST reference: Star Charts)

History[]

Devore Imperium

On a map of the Devore Imperium in 2375.

A class-3 nebula was encountered by the wayward Federation Intrepid-class starship USS Voyager in the 2375 on the ship's return trip to the Alpha Quadrant. On stardate 52610[1] that year, Derran Tal, a crewmember of a Varro generational ship, detected Class-3 nebula. Tal invited Ensign Harry Kim of Voyager to visit the nebula together. At the time, Voyager was docked to Jippeq's ship, working with the Varro to help repair systems on their generational ship.

Devore Imperium 2379

Map of Devore space in 2379.

Kim and Tal boarded a Type-9 shuttlecraft to investigate the astronomical phenomenon. The shuttle's sensors alerted the pair to a subspace vacuole near the center of the nebula, which acted as a gravitational anchor for the surrounding gas. (VOY episode: "The Disease")

When Starfleet returned to the Delta Quadrant in 2379, the class-3 nebula near the Devore Imperium in the Devore sector[2] was one of the areas of interest. (Star Trek Adventures module: Delta Quadrant Sourcebook)
