In planetary classification, a class A geothermal planet is a type of planet. As the name describes, the planet is generally geothermally active, generating heat. This type of planet is usually in the very early stages of development and are likely to evolve into other classes. No lifeforms have ever been discovered on these planets. - This classification should not be confused with the class A gas giant planet described in ST references: Star Trek Maps, The Worlds of the Federation.
In 2267, the USS Enterprise encountered a rogue class A planet named Gothos. It was discovered that Gothos was created by Trelane, a member of the Q Continuum, as a sort of playroom to test the crew of the Enterprise. (TOS episode: "The Squire of Gothos")
