Elvren micronebulae

Micronebulae in the Elvren star system.

In Federation Starfleet's alphabetic nebula classification[1], a class J nebula was a type of gas cloud, a dark matter nebula, in interstellar space. (VOY episode: "The Haunting of Deck Twelve")

History[]

In the galaxy's Delta Quadrant, at least one nebula played host to an electromagnetic lifeform. In the year 2376, this lifeform accidentally hitched a ride on the Federation starship USS Voyager during a deuterium collection. Captain Kathryn Janeway dropped the lifeform off in a similar nebula. (VOY episode: "The Haunting of Deck Twelve")

In the 2370s decade, Starfleet was aware that a class J nebula containing ionized gas could contain a warp core explosion. In 2377, Lieutenant Tom Paris ejected the Delta Flyer II's warp core in the Antarian class-J nebula during the Antarian Trans-stellar Rally. (VOY episode: "Drive")

Class J nebulae containing ionized gas could contain a warp core explosion. The Delta Flyer ejected its sabotaged warp core into such a nebula during the Antarian Trans-stellar Rally in 2377, to protect those attending the race. (VOY: "Drive")
