A coffee shop (or coffeehouse) was an Earth craze in the late 20th century. Small shops sold coffee to otherwise intelligent people for exorbitant amounts of money.

History and specifics[]

Eva's Kitchen was a coffee shop in Harlem in New York City. (DS9 episode: "Far Beyond the Stars")

This was listed by Tom Paris as one of the many things he loved about Earth's 20th century. (ST reference: Star Trek Cookbook)

In 2255, in the Kelvin timeline, Cadet James T. Kirk visited a coffeehouse named Brewsky's in San Francisco, where he became friendly with a barista named Hannah. (TOS - Starfleet Academy novel: The Delta Anomaly)

In the 2260s, Government House in San Francisco had at least one coffee shop. Captain Kirk shared coffee there with vice chairman Fado's secretary Ilana in 2266. (TOS comic: "The Trial of Captain Kirk")
