Cold Fusion is the sixth installment in the Star Trek: Starfleet Corps of Engineers series, written by Keith R.A. DeCandido and published in July 2001. In 2002 it was reprinted in the paperback omnibus Miracle Workers.

Following the catastrophic conclusion of Avatar, Lieutenant Nog -- the chief operations officer of space station Deep Space 9 -- joins forces with the crew of the USS da Vinci!

With the station's future in doubt, Nog meets the da Vinci at Empok Nor, Deep Space 9's long-abandoned twin, in order to salvage vital technology. But they arrive to find that someone has beaten them to it -- an enigmatic and dangerous alien race known as the Androssi. When the SCE crew learns what the Androssi have planned for Empok Nor, it threatens not only the lives of the da Vinci and Deep Space 9 crews, but galactic peace itself!

Background information

The Androssi, a recurring foe of the S.C.E. who also play a role in the A Time to... miniseries, appear for the first time in this story.
The German translation was released by Cross Cult in December 2014. It was translated by Susanne Picard and featured new cover art by Martin Frei.

DS9 novels: Avatar, Book Two, Abyss - This story is a crossover with the post-finale Star Trek: Deep Space Nine novel series. It gives the back-story to how Nog secured a new fusion core, as seen delivered in Abyss, following the destruction of DS9's original core in Avatar.
DS9 episodes: "Empok Nor", "The Magnificent Ferengi" - Nog recalls the events these episodes.
