A collapsar is a type of neutron star that compresses into a quantum singularity.
History and specifics[]
During its final phase, a collapsar begins to swell in size, producing increasing quantities of neutronium and gravimetric stress. At a certain point, overwhelming gravity forces itself to collapse inward, blasting away its neutronium and emitting X-ray bursts until it becomes a black hole.
In 2371, the crew of the Oberth-class USS Tenebrae observed the star FGC-27 transition from a collapsar into a black hole. Science officer Wyv Srri accurately predicted that it would collapse in six days. The final stage took ten hours, during which FGC-27 illuminated the surrounding Mar Oscura dark matter nebula with an orange-blow glow. A unique stream of particle emissions were detected — fleeing non-corporeal Umbra, lifeforms that lived within the star who were able to inhabit the bodies of several of the crew. In the 2370s, Collapsar 49 in the Arteline sector was used as a sensor test site for the shakedown cruise of the Nebula-class USS Discovery under Captain Ann Potrikos. En route, the ship's warp engines would not disengage, leaving the crew with 30 minutes to avoid destruction.
