Command chair of the Federation starship USS Enterprise in the year 2270.

The command chair (sometimes shortened to conn or called the captain's chair) is a feature of many different types of spacecraft and space station outposts used by a number of civilizations, particularly those with humanoid body shapes that tend to sit in chairs.

While the term "conn" does refer to the officer in charge occupying the command chair position, the term has also been interchangeably used to refer to the flight controller or helm position of the pilot. The term "helm" has also been doubly used to refer to both the pilot's position and command chair position.

History and specifics

Aboard starships used by the Federation and a number of other governments, the command chair occupies a prominent spot on the bridge or other command center, and is connected with technology to connect the commanding officer to computer control and communications positions.
