A Communication relay station, or simply relay station were technical platforms designed to receive communications from various starships, planets, and other stations as part of a communication network. Species and organizations such as the United Federation of Planets, the Romulan Star Empire and the Hirogen used these relays and their networks for communication purposes. These stations could be manned by small crew of at least 2 and were considered outposts for the various organizations.(TNG episodes: "Aquiel", "Attached"; VOY episode: "Message in a Bottle"; DS9 episode: "Once More Unto the Breach"; FASA RPG module: The Triangle)

Cardassian[]

The Cardassians and the Dominion used a relay station on Felton Prime during the Dominion War.(DS9 episode: "Once More Unto the Breach")


Federation[]

HirogenIn 2374, the USS Voyager discovered a station that was part of a extensive network in the Delta Quadrant. They were able to use the station and network to transmit The Doctor to the USS Prometheus in the Alpha quadrant. However, after Voyager received several letters from the Alpha quadrant, it's crew was forced to disable the network in order to rescue Tuvok and Seven of Nine from the Hirogen.(VOY episodes: "Message in a Bottle", "Hunters")
