The Congo class was a Federation starship class, a multi-mission explorer in Starfleet service in the 26th century. It was a variant of the Universe-class, and had been a candidate class for the USS Enterprise-J. (ST reference: The Official Starships Collection #89)
History and specifications[]
The class was first launched at some point in the 26th century. It was a sister design of the Universe-class. Structurally, the Congo class combined the Universe-class saucer with an Altair-type starship, which acted as secondary hull. Because the navigational deflector was part of the Altair hull, the primary hull featured a smooth bow, and lacked the prominent deflector dish of the Universe class.
A Congo-class starship was grown from replicated components. The ship's length was given as more than 3,000 meters, or 2 miles. (ST reference: The Official Starships Collection #89)
