A continent was a sizeable landmass on a planet. Usually, continents were separated from one another by bodies of water, mountain ranges or other geographical features. (SCE eBooks: Ishtar Rising, Book 1, Ishtar Rising, Book 2)
Continents were either named individually or identified by their location on the planet, e.g. northern continent. Continents were larger than islands, and could include subcontinents. (Decipher RPG module: Worlds)
A supercontinent included the majority of a planet's landmass, excepting only islands. (ST reference: The Klingon Empire)
