Continuing Committee

The Continuing Committee in session.

The Continuing Committee was a body present with the Romulan Star Empire and served as one of the highest governmental groups known. It was headed by the Praetor of the Romulan Star Empire and comprised of members of the Imperial Romulan Senate as well as other high ranking members such as the Chairman of the Tal Shiar.

The duties of the Committee included the appointment of a new Praetor and also served as a court to judge a member of the senate in regards to criminal matters. The Praetor is the only member who is guaranteed a seat on the Committee; all others, even high ranking officials such as the leader of the Tal Shiar, must compete to be allowed in. (DS9 episode: "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges")
