'Counting coup was a term given to a non-violent way of proving one warrior could best another. On Earth American Indians were known to run up to an enemy and touch him with a hand or stick to count coup.

In 2267, this tradition was still continued on the planet Neolithia. (TOS novel: Mission to Horatius)
