Crain was a junior Starfleet officer who served aboard the USS Enterprise-E. During his time aboard the Enterprise, he received the top tenth percentile on his evaluation reports.
Following the Rashanar incident in 2378, Crain requested and was granted a transfer off of the Enterprise. (TNG novel: A Time to Love)
