The cookies were named for canis crinitus, a wolf-like animal native to Romulus, honoring the legend of a bargain between one of the wolves and young boy Kalyb.
In the year 2268, the Romulan Commander provided Nurse Christine Chapel with a copy of the recipe during her stay aboard the starship USS Enterprise. Chapel adapted it for the ship's food processors, formulated using butter, sugar, eggs, flour, nutmeg, cloves, salt, baking soda, cinnamon, baking powder, walnuts, raisins, and milk.
