Crossover is an episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. It was written by Peter Allan FieldsMA and Michael PillerMA. It first aired in May 1994 as part of the second season.
Kira Nerys and Julian Bashir are transported to an alternate universe, previously visited by James T. Kirk, where Humans are slaves to Cardassians, Klingons and Bajorans.
Summary[]
Major Kira Nerys and Doctor Julian Bashir are returning from the New Bajor colony in the Gamma Quadrant and are approaching the Bajoran wormhole, when something happens to the runabout. The ship enters and exits the wormhole, but they are shocked to find Deep Space 9 gone and a Klingon attack cruiser approaching them. Two Klingons beam onboard but after recognizing Kira they return to their ship and escort the runabout to Deep Space 9, which is orbiting Bajor. Boarding the station they meet Garak, who doesn’t recognize them, and another Kira.
Bashir is taken to the ore processing facility on the station known by the Cardassian name Terok Nor, where he meets Human slaves, called Terrans, including O’Brien. The facility is run by Odo, but he is far more ruthless.
Kira’s counterpart, Intendant Kira, explains that she is in an alternate universe that Captain James T. Kirk crossed over to a century earlier. The alternate version of Spock took Kirk’s advice to reform the Terran Empire and seek peace. The Klingons and Cardassians saw this as weakness and conquered the empire, with an alliance that includes the Bajorans.
Intendant Kira has orders to kill anyone who crosses over again, but is fascinated with meeting a different version of herself. Major Kira realises that she needs to capitalise on this to avoid being killed so pretends to ask for the Intendant’s advice on how to help her Bajor.
Major Kira approaches Quark for help, but he is detained by Garak for helping Terran slaves escape the station. Kira and Bashir’s only hope is O’Brien, who is also skilled in engineering. Kira meets Sisko’s counterpart, who works as a privateer for Intendant Kira.
Intendant Kira orders Quark’s execution and reveals to Kira that Quark revealed under torture that Kira asked for his help. The Intendant takes no action against Kira, but Garak comments to Kira that the Intendant is so transfixed by her that she will not be allowed to leave. Garak offers his help to Kira if she briefly takes the Intendant’s place and then resigns. Otherwise he will kill Bashir.
The Rio Grande departs Terok Nor.
Kira approaches Sisko for help in escaping the station, but he refuses. An accident in ore processing allows Bashir to grab a phaser from a Bajoran guard and uses it to shoot Odo. O’Brien helps Bashir, but they are captured. They face execution, but Sisko has a change of heart and his crew and disarm the Alliance soldiers. O’Brien joins Sisko’s crew, and the pair plan for more actions against the Alliance.
Kira and Bashir reach the runabout and escape toward the wormhole, but are attacked by a Klingon ship. They reach the wormhole just in time. On Deep Space 9, Commander Sisko is relieved to see them and asks where they have been. Kira replies, “Through the looking glass, Commander”.
