A crystal ball was a container vessel used for purposes considered supernatural, specifically magic. In the 25th century, the witches of Pyris VII used crystal balls. (STO - House Divided mission: "Cat's Tale")

History and specifics[]

At some point before the year 2267, Cortneelia gave James T. Kirk a crystal ball with holo as a keepsake. (TOS video game: The Promethean Prophecy)

In the 24th century, one nebula in the galaxy was known as the Crystal Ball Nebula. (TNG - Double Helix novel: Red Sector)

In the 25th century, the Devidian Lord stole the transmuter wand from the ornithoid Old Ones at Castle Pyris, allowing mythical entities to come to life. A group of witches led by a trio of hags formed a coven in one part of the castle, and trapped the Ghostly Fortune Teller in a crystal ball in her chambers. A Khitomer Alliance away team, called to help by Old One Alpha Yenvep, fought the angry spirits occupying the Teller's room while filling a cauldron with ingredients that allowed the ghost's liberation from her crystal ball prison. At one point, the witches seized the Old Ones' transmuter and trapped the Ghostly Fortune Teller in the crystal ball. She was liberated by an Alliance team. (STO - Ascension mission: "Witches Brew")
