The Curry class[3] was a 24th century Federation starship type, a medium cruiser[1] in Starfleet service in the 2370s decade. This class was a wartime construction using elements from the existing Excelsior-class starship design. (DS9 reference: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Technical Manual)
History and specifications[]
The Curry class entered service during the Dominion War in 2374. The Curry and the Raging Queen, a variant with a different warp nacelle configuration, saw action in battle against the Dominion in that year. (DS9 episode: "A Time to Stand")
Their production base was the ASDB Integration Facility at the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards of Mars. They operated as medium cruisers and consisted structurally of Excelsior-class hulls and large Enterprise (Kelvin timeline)-/Reliant-class-style warp nacelles. (DS9 reference: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Technical Manual)
The configuration was compact compared to the elongated Excelsior. The neck rested in the relative center of the engineering hull and held the saucer section. Short nacelle pylons attached the nacelles to either side of the saucer. The shuttlebay was housed at the dorsal bow of the vessel. (DS9 episode: "A Time to Stand")
Compared to their upright position on the Curry, the Excelsior-class nacelles rested on their sides on the Raging Queen variant and its shuttlebay faced rearward. (The Official Starships Collection Issue 116: "USS Curry")
These nacelles were fed by two warp cores exceeding a 1,500 Cochrane output. Four impulse engines propelled this medium cruiser at sublight speeds. The Raging Queen itself measured 383.14 meters in length, with a beam of 195.64 meters and a height of 148.5 meters. Its mass of 1,270,000 metric tons outweighed the Yeager-class light cruiser, another wartime "Frankenstein kitbash"[4]. While the USS Yeager could maintain warp factor 9.55 for 12 hours, the Raging Queen could perform at warp 9.75 for the same time. The standard armament included ten Type-IX phaser emitters and two photon torpedo launchers. It housed a complement consisting of 290 officers and crewmembers. (DS9 reference: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Technical Manual)
In contrast, the USS Curry supported a crew of 290 and measured approx. 300 meters long. Its speed topped at warp factor 9.6, and it shared the classification as a medium cruiser. (The Official Starships Collection Issue 116: "USS Curry")
In the Trexelian Expanse, an area of space affected by time travel, Curry-class ships were deployed by Starfleet across several Trexelian sectors and saw combat action against various opponents. (ST video game: Trexels mission: "Skirmish")
