The D'vas-class (translated as Great Bird-class, and numerically known as the V24-class) was a series of class X Romulan cruiser starships in Imperial Star Navy service during the late 23rd century.
Specifications[]
Based on the S11 Vas Hatham (scout), the cruiser-sized D'vas featured a variable wing design which was kept horizontal for warp travel and swept-down during combat. With a crew of 240, these vessels measured 164 meters in length, 242 meters in width and 31 meters in height, with a mass of 155,703 metric tons. Propulsion was provided by two type RWF-2 warp engines and a type RIE-3 impulse engine. Offensive capabilities included six type RB-9 disruptor emitters, set in three banks of two placed forward port, forward starboard, and aft, as well as four plasma weapon launchers, two forward and two aft. The ships were defended by type RSQ deflectors. The command boom section did not detach, and the vessel was too large for planetary landings.
Service history and disposition[]
As a point of honor, this class was commissioned expressly for tracking and destroying copycat Klingon bird of prey vessels operating along the Klingon-Romulan border, in particular the D32 Z'gavva-class cruiser and the L42 Z'gavasta-class frigate. Its name, D'vas, was the Romulan language equivalent of Z'gavva, meaning "Great Bird".
The class entered service on reference stardate 2/2212, with four vessels deployed at the Klingon border and within the Triangle sector. (Stardate Magazine vol. 3, Issue 3: "Romulan V-24 (Great Bird) Class Cruiser")
