Memory Beta, non-canon Star Trek Wiki

The D-1 was a transport spacecraft and was considered old in 2267. It was once referred to as a “buggy”.

It was in service to the Federation wildlife preserve planet Salvum. It had wings for atmospheric operation, one personnel hatch on the port side, and appeared to have a rocket-propelled engine for sub-warp propulsion.

History[]

In 2267, James T. Kirk, Spock, and Montgomery Scott borrowed the D-1 from chief zoologist Axel Carruthers. The Starfleet officers went undercover to retrieve stolen male Gharian wedding birds believed taken to the non-aligned asteroid Grotus for illegal cockfighting. Kirk piloted the ship through Salvum’s atmosphere lock, then traveled to Grotus, where it safely landed. (TOS comic: "Sport of Knaves")

Estimated dimensions were based on a six-foot-tall hatch.
