Memory Beta, non-canon Star Trek Wiki

The da'Nikhirch, also known as the Eye of Fire, was a night when a sudden star appeared in Vulcan's sky. The "star" was actually the destruction of Sigma-1014 Orionis. This destruction could have been caused by a sunkiller bomb. The "hearthworld" of the Inshai Compact was destroyed in this event. With the destruction caused by this incident, the nonaligned planets of the Orion Congeries took over the space once controlled by the Inshai Compact. (TOS novel: The Romulan Way)

This event was famous to the Vulcan people for it marked the birth of Surak. (TOS novel: Spock's World)
