A Dagger of Maqatat was a ceremonial knife used by Cardassians. Traditionally carried by commissioned officers or those considered to be gentlemen, the daggers could be inherited by the descendants of those who had earned them.
In 2343, Winn Adami was accosted by a Cardassian corporal who carried a Dagger of Maqatat. Winn was able to take the dagger from him and threatened to kill herself with it, which convinced the corporal to withdraw. (DS9 - Rebels novel: The Liberated)
