Dahai Iohor Naraht was the 8412th egg hatched from the mother Horta on the planet Janus VI in the year 2267. Naraht's gender was "orthomale type B-4A". (TOS video game: The Kobayashi Alternative; TOS - Rihannsu novel: My Enemy, My Ally)
Biography[]
Naraht was the first of his kind to join Starfleet in 2270 (TOS novel: Memory Prime), serving aboard the USS Enterprise under the command of Captain James T. Kirk from 2275 until at least 2278.
When the Enterprise staged a raid against a Romulan space station in orbit of Levaeri V, he was one of the hundred-odd crewpeople chosen to participate. Naraht's natural ability to literally eat through stone and metal was critical to the success of the raid. (TOS - Rihannsu novel: My Enemy, My Ally)
In 2276, Naraht was briefly attached to Starfleet Intelligence for a rescue operation of Doctor Leonard McCoy, who was in Romulan custody, and was scheduled for execution. Naraht arrived undetected on the surface of Romulus "disguised" as an asteroid that made landfall. In a daring rescue, Naraht and Romulan outcast Ael t'Rllaillieu rescued McCoy from the heart of the Imperial Romulan Senate while in full session. (TOS - Rihannsu novel: The Romulan Way)
In 2278, Naraht attempted to apprehend a rogue Klingon officer that had barricaded himself in the men's room of the Enterprise's recreation deck. Naraht was chosen for this duty as his silicon epidermis was resistant to Klingon disruptor fire. Naraht was unable to take the Klingon into custody, as the cornered Klingon chose suicide over capture. (TOS novel: Rules of Engagement)
In early 2285, Naraht was one of the former Enterprise crew members recruited by Rear Admiral James T. Kirk to take the Enterprise to the planet Gateway, to investigate and repair the malfunctioning Guardian of Forever. (TOS - The Yesterday Saga novel: Time for Yesterday)
- Naraht was given the rank of lieutenant commander by author A.C. Crispin in the novel Time For Yesterday. In later appearances of the character in DC Comics (first series) written by Naraht's creator, Diane Duane, he held the rank of lieutenant, apparently having "stepped down" for whatever reason. Both authors' stories may also be considered separate continuities.
Later that year, Naraht served under Kirk when the admiral was put in temporary command of Excelsior. (TOS - Double Blind comics: "Part One", "Part II")
Naraht was later seen serving on the USS Enterprise-A in 2286 and 2287. (TOS comic anthology: Who Killed Captain Kirk? [citation needed])
