Thestoryteller

The Dal'Rok appears in the skies over Sidau.

The Dal'Rok was a creature that the Sirahna of Sidau, using the paghvaram, created out of the hate and mistrust of the people and unite them against a common enemy. The Dal'Rok would appear for five nights at the end of the current harvest and threaten the village. The Sirah would then rally his people to drive the Dal'Rok away. The true nature of the Dal'Rok was a closely kept secret passed down by the Sirahna. (DS9 episode: "The Storyteller", DS9 novel: Bajor: Fragments and Omens)

In 2369, the current Sirah, knowing he was dying, allowed Ke Hovath to tell the story. When Hovath was unable to unite the villagers, the Dal'Rok damaged Sidau and several people were injured. The Sirah, knowing Hovath would need to be trusted by the villagers again, had Faren Kag request assistance from Deep Space 9. The Sirah chose Miles O'Brien as his successor and, when O'Brien was unable to focus the villagers against the Dal'Rok, Hovath stepped in and rallied them to have strength and unity. The Dal'Rok disappeared and Hovath took his place as the new Sirah. (DS9 episode: "The Storyteller")

In 2376, Ro Laren studied the culture of Sidau, including the Dal'Rok, from O'Brien and Julian Bashir's reports and informed Benjamin Sisko, Kira Nerys, Elias Vaughn, Opaka Sulan and Asarem Wadeen of her findings. (DS9 novel: Bajor: Fragments and Omens)

In 2377, Iliana Ghemor demanded an demonstration of the Dal'Rok from Hovath, who she had kidnapped from Sidau before destroying it. Hovath was unable to conjure it using the paghvaram, believing the explanation was that he was no longer worthy. (DS9 novel: The Soul Key)
