Daniel Calder Fontana was a 23rd century Human man. He served in Starfleet as the CO of the Federation science vessel USS Edison in the 2260s decade.
Biography[]
In the year 2269, Fontana and his crew went insane during a mission in space and lost contact with Starfleet. Believing he was the chief officer of Star Trek: The Animated Series, Fontana called himself a god and made his crew wear TV sets on their heads. A device he called the Fontana drive was said to be capable of crossing over into alternate realities. When the starship USS Enterprise arrived, Edison was enveloped by an anomalous energy field created by the reactor.
Once activated, Fontana and the Enterprise landing party found themselves within what appeared to be a comic book reality. Fontana believed he was its writer and artist, therefore its chief architect, and invented an Archie-like setting for the landing party to navigate. When James T. Kirk built a communications device, Fontana erased it with an enormous pencil.
Fontana drew the landing party meeting Starfleet personnel from other eras, whimsically adding elephant ears and noses on them. He then forced them all to fight each other on his fictional planet Casperla.
Shiboline M'Ress suggested a means of escape. During their "battle of the century", they used aquacite boulders to etch letters onto the ground, forming an editor's note which said Fontana loses. Fontana's shock at seeing it was able to disperse the comic book illusions. Fontana and his staff were then secured in the brig. (TAS comic: "The Scheimer Barrier")
