Situated in a valley between the Rinwaul River and the Quartuk Range, the city of Daraniss occupied 1,420 square kilometers of land and housed 1.960 million residents. It hosted a major university as well as a ground-based spaceport. Public transport was offered via unirails, a hovertrain line, and underground shuttles. The city was divided into eleven districts:
- A — Daran Freeport
- B — Tourism center and service district, with hotels and shops
- C — Unirail switchyard
- D — Residential district for government and spaceport employees
- E — Commercial district
- F — Darannol University, art galleries, museums, auditoriums
- G — Residential district, a middle-class locale
- H — Residential district known as "the Greater", housing the richest residents
- I — Government district
- J — Trade district, with some residences, transportation and retail businesses
- K — Residential district for those working in the trade district
- L — Residential district known as "the Lesser", with less affluent residents and no public transportation
