- See Davis for other articles with titles that contain, either by relationship or by coincidence, this character's surname.
Davis was a Human man, a Starfleet officer assigned to the engineering department of the USS Enterprise in the 2260s.
History
In 2267, Davis and a security guard accompanied Captain James T. Kirk and Commander Spock to the planet Gateway to locate Dr. Leonard McCoy. (TOS novelization: The City on the Edge of Forever, TOS - Crucible novel: The Fire and the Rose)
In 2269, during a heated battle within Cherala's atmosphere to prevent Dassik cluster ships from bombing the hidden Web of Worlds, Davis and Ensign Gardner programmed systems to adjust plasma flow rates automatically and protect the ship's damaged starboard nacelle from a catastrophic failure. (TOS novel: The Face of the Unknown)
When the Enterprise became ensnared in the gravity well of Questar M-17, Lt. Commander Scott ordered Davis and Gardner to put all power into reversing the engines. (TAS - Log One novelization: Beyond the Farthest Star)
When the Enterprise was engulfed by the cosmic cloud entity, Davis opened an access port so that Montgomery Scott and James T. Kirk could insert a magnetic container of antimatter into the warp engines. (TAS - Log One novelization: One of Our Planets Is Missing)
- Frank Gabler performed this function in the aired episode. (TAS episode: "One of Our Planets Is Missing")
Davis and Longey retrieved a phaser bore out of storage and set it up on a tripod in the transporter room. James T. Kirk needed the tool beamed to the surface of the Amusement Park Planet. Davis connected an electrical ground to one of the legs, but discovered that it would not dematerialize. (TAS - Log Three novelization: Once Upon a Planet)
Davis checked for damage from an unknown radiation barrage, but could not find any; nor could Leonard McCoy and Christine Chapel in sickbay. (TAS - Log Four novelization: The Terratin Incident)
Background
- Davis was identified as an ensign in The Face of the Unknown, but as a technician second class in Once Upon a Planet. In his author's annotations, Christopher L. Bennett confirmed that they are the same person despite the differing ranks.
