Publisher's description[edit | edit source]
- A crewmember, stranded on a strange planet, encounters a bizarre alien creature. They must learn how to interact, but how?
Summary[edit | edit source]
A storm disrupted the transporter of the USS Enterprise as people were beaming down to a desert planet, scattering each member of the landing party. Nyota Uhura found herself alone in a desert. Montgomery Scott warned over her communicator that she would have to wait till the storm passed before she could be beamed back.
She moved within a small oasis to seek shelter and encountered a lone animal lifeform. While connecting with the strange creature, she sang it a song in Swahili and used a phaser to heat a rock between them. She showed it how to weave leaves, and together they made mats.
Scott suddenly alerted her that the transporter was clear, and before Uhura could say farewell to the creature, she dematerialized. The creature waited for her to return, then stopped standing like a biped and walked on all fours back into the foliage.
