A deadfall is a rudimentary but deadly trap, a type of remote weapon in which a trigger causes a heavy weight to fall onto a target. The term also is used more broadly to describe a dangerous location full of hazards.

History and specifics[]

In 2273, the arboreal natives of Quilian IV set deadfall traps in a jungle along a northeast trail from the Federation's landing site to their arboreal village. These traps were triggered by a tripwire and would drop a heavy log onto an unsuspecting animal. (FASA RPG module: Safari in Violet)

In 2376, P8 Blue noticed three deadfall traps set near a stream within the People's vessel generational ship. These were baited with flowers, fruit and meat, but were barely concealed, leaving her wondering what they were intended to trap. (SCE eBook: Orphans)

Descriptions[]

In 2270, Sord called the Mad Planet a deadfall. (TAS episode & Log Five novelization: The Jihad)

In 2273, Spock described wreckage within the Johnston Observatory near Rakatan Mons a deadfall. (TOS novel: Firestorm)
