Deb Underwood was a female Human, a Federation citizen serving in Starfleet as an officer in the 23rd century. In the 2250s decade, Underwood was the commanding officer of the experimental science vessel USS Glenn. (STO - Age of Discovery mission: "Secrets")

Biography[]

In May 2256, Starfleet outfitted a pair of Crossfield-class starships with a spore drive, developed by astromycologists Justin Straal and Paul Stamets. (DSC comic: "Annual 2018")

Weeks into the Federation-Klingon War, Admiral Kensington dispatched the Glenn to support the USS Malachowski at the Delta Volanis Science Station in the Delta Volanis Cluster. When Klingon boarded the Glenn, Captain Underwood and Lieutenant Straal coordinated with a Malachowski landing party to restore ship systems and thwart Mistress J'Ula's attempt to steal mycelial technology. While Straal joined the landing party to thwart J'Ula, Underwood coordinated recovery efforts from the bridge. (STO - Age of Discovery mission: "Secrets")

In November 2256, Straal communicated with Stamets on their mutual progress, including a 90 light-year jump of the Glenn. Soon after, a jump failed, transforming and killing the Glenn's crew. Klingons boarded the ship and Ripper broke out. Stamets and a team from his ship, the USS Discovery, investigated the Glenn and found Straal's deformed corpse. Captain Gabriel Lorca had the Glenn scuttled. (DSC episode: "Context Is for Kings")

Legacy[]

Following the reappearance of J'Ula and House Mo'Kai around 2409/10, the Alpha Quadrant Alliance programmed a holodeck simulation of the events at Delta Volanis, including a simulated interaction with Captain Underwood aboard USS Glenn. (STO - Age of Discovery mission: "Secrets")

Alternate timelines[]

In an alternate timeline where the Klingon War was avoided at the Standoff at the Binary Stars, the Glenn continued its "DASH drive" experiments into 2257. In that year, Underwood had the Glenn travel to Benecia Colony and mycelial space to help recover a shipwrecked USS Discovery. Working with Underwood, Straal found the captain an acquired taste.
