Deckert was a 23rd century Human individual. By the late 2270s decade, Deckert was serving as a lieutenant in Starfleet, assigned to the Federation starship USS Enterprise.

In the year 2277, Deckert brought a case before Admiral James T. Kirk at Captain's Mast, where he accused a petty officer of reprogramming one of the computer games to win money from the crew. Admiral Kirk subsequently found the petty officer guilty. (TOS - Star Trek II Short Stories short story: "The Blaze of Glory")
