Deep Space Monitor Station 18

Deep Space Monitor Station 18 was an isolated 23rd century listening post space station located on the Federation's outermost borders.

History and specifics[]

The station used advanced, unconventional means to scan for signals from previously unknown intelligent species. Facilities included an operations center and a transporter room.

In 2268, the station picked up a garbled subspace transmission from a site 3,000 light years from the galactic core, which had been sent 1,170 years earlier by Captain James T. Kirk. The Federation starship USS Enterprise diverted and confirmed the message's origins, and after permission was granted by Admiral James Komack, the Enterprise traced the signal to its origin point, Kroy's planet.

During the mission, history was altered such that Kirk never sent the message from the past, and the station never received it. (TOS - New Visions comic: "Time's Echo")
