Tom Riker, now a Maquis leader, poses as Commander Riker and steals the Defiant, using it to attack Cardassian targets.
Summary[]
The DS9 crew are pleased to welcome Commander William Riker to the station, particularly Kira. She gives him a tour of the Defiant, but after powering up the ship, Riker shoots Kira with a phaser and steals the Defiant. The DS9 crew that this is Thomas Riker, an identical version of William Riker created years earlier by a transporter accident. They also learn that Tom Riker is a member of the Maquis, and as he likely to use the Defiant to attack Cardassian targets, Commander Sisko asks Gul Dukat's help in stopping Riker.

- Tom Riker's rescue has been featured or mentioned in several novels, comics, short stories and games. His return in the splinter timeline novels was featured in The Poisoned Chalice and Peaceable Kingdoms. Among the early reappearances of the character were the comic Sole Asylum, the Millennium novel trilogy, Triangle: Imzadi II, the short story "Promises Made", and the game Dominion Wars.
