A democracy was a form of government.

History and specifics[]

Human philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau once stated that a large central government and true democracy were irreconcilable. (TNG novel: The Captains' Honor)

Democracy was regarded as one of several possible avenues to utopia. (TOS - The Eugenics Wars novel: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh, Volume 1)

In the 23rd century, the planet Nukolee was democratically governed by an emperor through a parliamentary system. (TOS comic: "A World Gone Mad")

In 2260, Emperor Kring of Njura instituted democracy in the Njura system and became an elected president. (TOS comic: "To Err is Vulcan")

In 2266, Emperor Bavoda of Fayo abdicated in favor of his son Prince Yano, who began implementing a democracy. (TOS comic: "Prince Traitor")

After the end of the Dominion War in 2375, the Cardassian Union became a democracy. (DS9 novel: A Stitch in Time)
