Deneb Kaitos IV (commonly known as simply Deneb IV) is a Class M planet located in the Deneb Kaitos system. (ST reference: Star Charts) It was the homeworld of the Deirr. (TOS - Rihannsu novel: My Enemy, My Ally)

Specifics[]

It supported a Federation colony. Its unspoiled wilderness made it a popular place for shore leave, though many areas were swampy and it had vast oceans. The Denebian slime devil was indigenous to Deneb IV. (ST reference: Worlds of the Federation, FASA RPG module: The Federation)

Last Unicorn RPG module: Star Trek: The Next Generation Core Game Book and Decipher RPG module: Creatures attributed the climate and slime devil origins to Deneb V. TOS - Constellations short story: "Where Everybody Knows Your Name" said the animal was from Denebia.
Worlds of the Federation stated its population was 17,000, whereas The Federation said it was 2.5 billion, with 60% Human and 40% from Alpha Centauri.

Deneb's tropical climate and marshes made it useful in pharmacology, with medicines and various minerals processed in the capital city near the northern ice cap before being exported. (FASA RPG module: The Federation)

The planet's average surface temperature was 30° Celsius. Its colonists were free-spirited, forming a somewhat relaxed government that traded with the Orion Colonies. Aside from a reputation for wild nightlife, the world was famous for its fishing industry. A trade center was located in Beras on the southern continent. (StarDrive Issue 1: "The Land That Time Befuddled: An Introduction to Alpha Cygni")

FASA published conflicting planetary specs. StarDrive magazine stated that it had a planetary trade profile of FDDADCA/A(C), technological/sociopolitical index of 988573-60, no moons, diameter of 11,140 kilometers, equatorial circumference of 35,000 kilometers, a 26 hour day, and 12% land mass. The Federation stated that it had a planetary trade profile of CCBCEDE/C(C), technological/sociopolitical index of 998898-67, three moons, diameter of 10,500 kilometers, equatorial circumference of 32,000 kilometers, a 19 hour day, and 15% land mass.

History[]

In November 1994, Gary Seven compared a coach in Paris to an imperial carriage on Deneb IV. (TOS - The Eugenics Wars novel: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh, Volume 1)

In the 2240s decade, on reference stardate 1/7703.25, the SS Heidelburg colony ship landed on Deneb IV. (StarDrive Issue 1: "The Land That Time Befuddled: An Introduction to Alpha Cygni")

In the 2250s, James T. Kirk and Gary Mitchell visited the planet, and Mitchell became involved with a woman. For years afterward, Kirk remarked that he had been worried about Mitchell since their visit to Deneb. (TOS episode & novelization: Where No Man Has Gone Before)

In the 23rd century, some of the planet's swamps were mined after the slime devils were determined not to be sapient lifeforms. (TOS novel: Ghost-Walker)

In the 2270s, on reference stardate 2/1201, the first Denebian Swan of Merit was awarded for valor in service to Deneb IV. (FASA RPG module: Star Trek: The Next Generation Officer's Manual)

In 2293, Ambassador Sarek left his ailing wife Amanda Grayson to negotiate with a leader of Klingon rebels at a conference center on Deneb IV. Amanda died while he was there. (TOS novel: Sarek)

By the late 24th century, Starfleet officers had used the planet for R&R for over 100 years. The planet was known for its use of geothermal energy. (ST website: StarTrek.com)

By 2361, the Federation's Deneb Orbital Docks shipyard was located at Deneb IV. (Last Unicorn RPG module: The Price of Freedom)

The shipyard was described as venerable, making it unlikely to be located at Alpha Cygni's Deneb IV prior to that world's first contact with the Federation.
