Deneb V or Deneb Kaitos V is a Class M planet located in the Deneb Kaitos system. The planet is home to a humanoid species known as the Klaha. Its official name is the Commonwealth of Denebia. (ST reference: Star Charts)
Specifics[]
The planet had three continents, one inhabited by Humans. Mountain ranges soared five kilometers above sea level, leaving most terrain rugged with an average surface temperature of 5° Celsius. Its 200,000 Human colonists were spread among several cities, contributing to a planetary trade profile of CEAADCA/C(D) and a technological/sociopolitical index of 999694-76. (StarDrive Issue 1: "The Land That Time Befuddled: An Introduction to Alpha Cygni")
- Sources differed as to the human population's origins. Star Trek Maps stated that it was a colony that migrated from Deneb II, while StarDrive stated that the people came from New England, with some colonists resettling on Deneb II.
The Klaha species was indigenous to Deneb V. (TOS - Rihannsu novel: My Enemy, My Ally)
Deneb V supported a Starfleet training center and naval yards, and was a major Federation port of call. (ST references: Star Trek Maps, Worlds of the Federation)
Morolovov gapsum plants grow on Deneb V. A hallucinogen from the plant, combined with Asian poppies, is used to manufacture Red ice, a genetically modified version of heroin. (TLE novel: Well of Souls)
History[]
The Great Age of Deneb V was a Renaissance-like epoch around the time of Surak. An homage to the period was located on Omne's planet. (TOS novel: The Price of the Phoenix)
In the 2160s, Deneb V became a Federation protectorate after a long period of trading with Vulcans.
In 2163, an epidemic of Denebian fever on Deneb V was treated by Denobulans from an orbiting convoy. Devna alerted Starfleet that the healing medicines were a lucrative target for the Orion Syndicate. (ENT - Rise of the Federation novel: A Choice of Futures)
On reference stardate 1/7704.21, the Brisbane Mining and Development Company established a mining colony on Deneb V, uncovering ryetalyn deposits just in time to aid several outbreaks of Rigellian fever that year. (StarDrive Issue 1: "The Land That Time Befuddled: An Introduction to Alpha Cygni")
In 2259, Deneb V was admitted as a full Federation member. (ST reference: Star Charts)
In the 2260s, the Denebians still practiced the death penalty for a multitude of crimes, including fraud. The condemned would either be electrocuted, gassed, or hung. In 2267, Harry Mudd was sentenced to death on Deneb, but managed to escape before his sentence could be carried out. (TOS episode & Mudd's Angels novelization: I, Mudd)
Doctor Jeffrey Adams, also facing fraud and embezzlement charges on Deneb, fled to Tanis. (TOS novel: Bloodthirst)
In 2270, the Academy of Sciences was dedicated on the planet, and Captain James T. Kirk performed the ceremony. The USS Enterprise arrived there towing a seized Orion pirate ship. (TAS episode & Log Five novelization: The Pirates of Orion)
The Deneb V Credit Exchange was also established on the planet, and served as one of the premier banking establishments in the 23rd century. (TOS comic: "The Ashes of Eden")
In the 2280s, Starfleet Academy's annex on Deneb V published a classified procedures manual for certain cadets to familiarize them with a substitute for the Kobayashi Maru scenario. (TOS video game: The Kobayashi Alternative Procedures Manual)
Najm al Din el-Malk moved to Deneb V, where he changed his name to Nu’man al-Halak before his son Samir al-Halak was born there. He reportedly died when his ship burned up near Deneb V's sun despite being an excellent pilot.
In the early 24th century, Deneb V was known for smuggling. Najm al Din el-Malk and Mahfouz Qudir operated as smugglers on Deneb V before moving to Farius Prime. (TLE novel: Well of Souls)

Background[]
- Pre-TNG references to Deneb V orbiting Alpha Cygni were retconned as being in the Deneb Kaitos system in ST reference: Star Charts to explain discontinuities between the Deneb system well-known to the Federation in the 23rd century and the more distant Deneb system at the Federation's frontier in the mid-24th century.
